About the event
Date/Time: Friday, June 20th @ 6:30-8:00pm CST
Description: As writers who care deeply about how our words a ect others, we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to write poems that change the world. Poetry is certainly important, but it’s not the only tool. In this interactive craft talk, Ariana Brown describes how the quest to write the perfect political poem distracts us from our work of caring for ourselves and each other, linking frameworks from Black feminist theory, disability justice, survivance, and care as an antidote and politic that actually can save us. We will explore how to write against empire in ways that resist capitalism and ego, methods of resistance beyond the page, and how to stay connected to our values and each other. Writers of all genres are welcome to attend and participate. Closed captions will be provided.
