Description: 

A supportive virtual class centered on the poetry of veteran slam poet, Suzi Q. Smith. Together, we will explore the building blocks of prose poems and sentences to create dynamic poems with attitude. Ariana will lead group discussion and facilitate detailed writing exercises and prompts. There will be plenty of time to learn, write, and share.

About the Instructor: 

Ariana Brown is a queer Black Mexican American poet from San Antonio, TX, currently based in Houston. She is the author of We Are Owed. (Grieveland, 2021) and Sana Sana (Game Over Books, 2020). Ariana’s work investigates queer Black personhood in Mexican American spaces, Black relationality and girlhood, loneliness, and care. She holds a B.A. in African Diaspora Studies and Mexican American Studies, an M.F.A. in Poetry, and an M.S. in Library Science.
