About the event
Workshop Description: Led by mónica teresa ortiz, Maya Salameh, Fatima-Ayan Malika Hirsi, and Ashia Ajani who write and teach around nature writing from within the imperial core will discuss how they address the intersections of environmental harm and warmaking in their writing. Poets, cultural workers, researchers and environmental advocates will share what they’ve learned regarding both writing about ecocide and enduring it. The expanded canon they promote allows for a more nuanced engagement with nature writing, which leads to a deeper understanding of the world.
About the Presenters:
Maya Salameh is the author of Mermaid Theory (Haymarket Books, 2026) and How to Make an Algorithm in the Microwave (University of Arkansas Press, 2022), winner of the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize.
