Description: In this generative workshop, we will read and talk about various horror devices like haunted houses, ghosts, and monsters and discuss the queer storytelling possibilities each presents. There will be themed writing exercises paired thematically with the readings, and we will write A LOT and pay attention to the things that scare us. Closed captions will be provided.
About the Instructor: Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya is a lesbian writer of essays, short stories, and pop culture criticism living in Orlando. Her queer horror novelette Helen House (Burrow Press) was named one of the Best LGBTQ Books of 2022 by NBC News. She is the managing editor of Autostraddle and the former managing editor of TriQuarterly.
